Music, good food, dancing, and a showcase of cultures – these are the things the delegates of the 7th Asia Pacific Conference for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights enjoyed in yesterday’s Asia Pacific Night. The attendees were served authentic Filipino food and entertained by the Bayanihan Dance Troupe, who performed various Filipino dances. The Tinikling was a crowd favorite. It was also a night of cultural pride, as delegates swapped their advocacy shirts for their colorful national costumes.
Of course, the organizers would not let the performers have all the fun. Volunteers from St. Dominic College of Asia took to the stage gave the delegates a dance lesson, which everybody joined. Minutes later, everybody was dancing to the official song of Pinoy Big Brother. The impromptu dance number was a sight to behold, especially since most those who were dancing were bedecked in jewelry, beads, pina fabric, malong, and silk.
Fun was the name of the game, and everyone – including the organizers – joined the party.
True to the advocate’s the call of productivity, these delegates took the dance number a step further and wowed the crowd with their moves.
Asia Pacific Night is proof of one thing: SRHR advocates work hard, but they definitely party harder.
